I feel like the past six months have been a whirlwind...changes, changes, changes. Every New Years I look back with amazement at the events that happened over the past year, and this year was no exception. A year ago I was secure in my bank job, happy for the moment to leave pastry on the back burner, and feeling like the banking world was where I would continue my career. Then all the sudden, it was taken away when the company downsized (previous post,) and I was left feeling pretty lost. In October, my husband surprised us with a "Hey, do you want to move to North Carolina in three weeks??" After moving here, I realized that there are NO bakeries (other than supermarkets!) and I'm now on track to open my own dessert cafe/bakery. Currently I have everything ready to go, just trying to get working capital together to open my doors. Here are a few things I've been working on, plus the business logo! New business logo!!!
And on deck for this week is a treasure chest cake for Cam's 7th birthday party. Should be a pretty fun cake to do.

Congrats! Honestly don't remember where I found your blog or if you ever read mine, but I JUST opened my bakery. I've been open six weeks now. But, between a crazy landlord, remodeling and getting everything together, it took a while. I lost my job last May and managed to open January 13. Hopefully things move way faster for you! Good luck! I'll be watching your progress.
It was in your "user setting" options, I remember when I was looking over things to set them up for myself. I personally like how it's set up now, posts oldest to newest, so I never changed that settting, but I do remember seeing the option where to reset it. Haven't checked out that stuff yet.

First of all, I know this is LONG overdue, but WELCOME TO NORTH CAROLINA!
Second of all, I'm glad I'm not the only one that moved here and wondered where the heck all the bakeries are! They're much like Catholics... Very difficult to find! :)
Of course, there is Dewey's bakery, a staple in Winston-Salem, but I don't care for them at all and the one time I asked if they would sell me a dozen sugar decorations, (on-lay's) the manager said they would be $1.50 EACH! Well, as we all know, these should cost no more than .30-40 cents each. I was disappointed that a local bakery would take such advantage of someone just wanting a few sugar Christmas trees to put on cookies (I was making for friends at work.)
All of that aside, I am so happy for you and so proud of you for taking the leap of faith it takes to become a small business owner.
Good luck to you and please do keep us posted!
